Intelligent Web Design

Drawn into the Digital Era at an early age with the boom of videogames in the mid 80’s ,my passion for creation and technologies led me to explore computer graphics in 1999 when I bought a PC-Mag issue that featured 3D softwares DEMOs inside which I found this intriguing software called Nendo and then learned 3D art techniques by reading from the internet forums at the defunct where Bay Raitt (LoTR) used to share his researches and insights with us underlings.

Having a constant unsatisfying urge of creating , Web Design was inevitably added to my repertoire in the last years and now I divide most of my time designing graphically compelling Wordpress themes.

Development Update

Just a quick update since I have not posted in a while.

I’m working on finishing a new Menu plugin before publishing the free WordPress Comments Plugin. It’s going to be Pure CSS3 menu sporting a Mega-Menu with configurable columns options and capable of emulating almost any style out there except for the most eccentric ones.

Of course it will be compatible with pretty much any WordPress theme out there.

Back to WordPress code now.

Optimizing your WordPress Site: Simple Gradient Background Images and a Transparent PNG with Powerful Results

Here’s a nice trick a lot of web designers use to optimize performances on website elements which would usually implicate the use of a large or wide background image.

The Tradtionnal way for website backgrounds:

If you followed my tutorial on creating a Background image for your website then you may have asked yourself if that image size was a bit huge, while most people can now enjoy faster internet connection, you are right, your site speed is a primordial aspect of your visitor’s experience and will keep them coming and recommending you.

The other/old way was to plant a relatively big background image on the BODY or HTML tag.

The image had to be slightly painted on it’s contour to match… Read The Article

Adding a Background Image to your Twitter Page,The Quick but not Dirty way

I just joined Twitter and came across the design ‘option’ hence the emphasis on non-plural word ‘option’.So I thought I’d use the only customization feature and help people get the best out of it at the same time.

Simple enough I took a full-screen screen grab of the Page and dropped it inside Gimp.

Then really it was just a matter of what I wanted to put and where and do it,using the screenshot as a guide for the placement my elements but images tell a thousand words so here we go:

Screenshot loaded and partly cropped

Adding Simple elements quickly

more elements added tot he background image

Added an under-layer of white before cropping the bottom

After Cropping the… Read The Article

Edit Background Primer: Modify HTML Background Properties for Blogs and WordPress Sites

It can be very frustrating to finally find a WordPress Theme that you like and finding out that it does not come with any way(for the CSS neophyte) to alter the Background image or Color of the website.Seeing as I get repeated questions about how to change the Background for a WordPress blog, I decided to write a very short primer on just that.

After this article, anyone should be able to change their Website Background image or color .Naturally, anyone proficient enough with WordPress knows that you can add the following:

To your ‘functions.php’ file and instantly get the WordPress Custom Background Image module, which Twenty-Ten/eleven uses but where’s the fun and learning in that?On top of it,results can not… Read The Article

Finished First Development Project:My Free WordPress Comments Widget Plugin

The other day I decided to display comments on my WordPress blog using the default widget but I was not quite satisfied with the display, mainly the lack of actual comment content or excerpt thereof. So naturally,I went into the wp-includes (in the WordPress core files)to investigate the code and behold,in 102 lines of code ,it still did not even do half of what I wanted.Since most modification to core WordPress files get overwritten after an upgrade,it’s pretty pointless to alter any of them and since WordPress supplies such a nice Settings API to work with,I decided to dig in and make my own.

Cool but what does this WordPress Plugin does exactly?

Pretty simple yet,much better!

I personally think… Read The Article

Adding a New Layer of Security to your WordPress Installation using .htaccess IP Restrictions

Peace of mind over your WordPress website’s security can become an obsession when online perpetrators abound so much and brutally force their way in so what to do to make yourself a bit less worried? The simple answer:Making sure you,or a select few are the only person(s) able to log in.

While this is may cause management problems(if not, nightmares) on sites that bolster many users or authors, it is an extremely robust yet simple way to achieve high security clearance on your personal websites.

To resume:

You should do this if:

  1. You ,or only a few are the only users to log
  2. You,or the users that log have a Static IP*

*an IP that does not change over time i.e… Read The Article

Creating a High Resolution Background image for your Website or Blog

It’s always nice to have background decoration on your web site but seamless pixel patterns are a bit outdated to use for them.Having dramatically higher resolution sizes on every platform it’s no wonder high resolution images are preferred from both designers and users.Since placing elements with HTML is no guesswork, here’s a few tips in creating a basic high resolution Background to be used on your site.

I use Gimp for most of my image work but the concepts are the same in every similar software(i.e Adobe Photoshop) unless you’re using something like Autodesk’s Sketchbook.

The resulting image is to be styled using CSS with the HTML or BODY tag on a layout that uses a 1000 Pixels Width for the… Read The Article

WordPress Manual installation From The Ground up

Scenario 1

So you’ve got this web host and it has this neat installer for softwares and you never really bothered to use anything else to install WordPress on your sites or your client’s.

Unfortunately,as your web endeavours and number of domains increased,so has the number of SQL databases and their funky names like wordpr_153, and one day,an urgent (as in minutes urgent) need to find the specific database for a said Domain and make a quick change pops up and you stumble upon the confusing list of database, whether in your Control Panel or inside PHPMyAdmin.

Where to now?

Any good WordPress administrator knows he can retrieve the database name through the config.php file in the WordPress installation inside the… Read The Article

Host File Modification for Web Design

When moving a client’s site from one host to another, whether it be the same or an updated version, any consciencous webmaster should take a few considerations.

  1. His priority should be to minimize the website downtime between DNS changes
  2. Editing a live website might cause temporary problems to visitors or logged users

Luckily, there’s a neat way to accomplish a seamless web host transfer by making changes to a simple file on our computer.
Since the DNS are still pointing to the old host, typing site’s the address in a web browser will take you to the old website/host which is not what we want so we will trick our computer into taking us to the new host.Doing so wil enable us work directly… Read The Article
